In 1961, God told Oral,
Now my time has come for you to build Me a university on My authority and on the Holy Spirit.
The groundbreaking for Oral Roberts University was in 1962. Classes in the School of Evangelism began the next year. In 1965, the University opened with a skeleton population of 312 students. The school is officially dedicated by Billy Graham in 1967 and received accreditation.
The tent crusades continued until 1967, and God continued to speak to Oral and use him to bring healing to multitudes of people. God said to expect a new miracle every day.
In 1968, Oral began sending out groups of students to travel and minister around the world.
Oral also began a series of National TV Specials, featuring a wide range of celebrity talent, and the message of the gospel. Guest included Mahalia Jackson, Pat Boone, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Jane Powell, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lewis, Lou Rawls, the Lennon Sisters, Burl Ives, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Natalie Cole, Jimmy Durante, and many others. The Valentine’s Day special was nominated for several Emmy awards, and ratings reached an all time high of almost 40 million viewers.
