Richard’s Kenya Blog: January 28

Today was another busy, yet fulfilling day in Nairobi. As I finished the pastors conference, and I was thrilled to see what God is doing here.

Large crowds at the medical clinics in KenyaI was told a gathering like this of pastors from so many different churches, groups, and places is rare in Kenya. I encouraged them to continue in unity, and I urged them to be aware of the needs in their communities and look for ways to meet those needs. Then I laid hands on every single person. Each minister left with a copy of my book Claiming Your Inheritance to encourage them to believe God to meet their ministry needs.

The medical team held the second of four clinics today…this one in the slum known as Korogocho. Large piles of rotting trash line the crowded, narrow streets near the makeshift stalls where vendors set up their wares early in the morning to try to make a living. The people here lead a hard life. Many of them are HIV positive, and they don’t have much hope of escaping to a better life.

The crowd lined up early for the chance to see a doctor, and the numbers of patients continued to swell by the hour. Over 1,000 people consulted with a doctor and received medicines and food in the course of eight hours. Most of the men, women, and children who came to the clinic today seemed sicker than the crowd from our first day. Their need for our help was great…and I’m so thankful to everyone who helped us reach out to Korogocho.

Throughout the day, our hard-working doctors and nurses met the physical needs of the patients as best as they could. One woman, Dorcas, came in with tuberculosis, a common problem in these slums. She desperately needed the antibiotics we provided to her. And many others, like three-year-old Victor, suffered from parasite infections that can be treated with medicines we distributed at the clinic. She and her child left with both physical and spiritual needs met.

It was clear that many people in Korogocho need more than medicine. They need miracles of salvation, healing, finances, or deliverance… like Rose, a 34-year-old mother of four children who suffers from high blood pressure. Rose knows she needs medicine, but she doesn’t take it regularly because she can’t afford to buy the pill all the time. Our clinic gave her a month’s supply today.

Large crowds at the medical clinics in KenyaNow, I’m looking forward to our crusade meetings, which start tomorrow night. As human beings, we can’t give Kenya everything it needs. But God can! The whole team and I are full of joy and anticipation. I’m looking forward to seeing God heal the sick, give the blind their sight, raise up the crippled to walk, and do creative miracles that will change people’s lives!
